There's no secret or miracle drug or surgical technique or a new exercise program (exercise doesn't hurt though) to what I will share with you. What I have found out after talking with nutritionist and consulting with diet gurus and so called experts in the field is that getting healthy is about more than diet and exercise. The real secret is the foods we eat.
There are five foods that will help keep us free from disease and also make us look and feel great. It is time to get back on track for better health. It's time to let the sugar, bad carbs, and high fructose drinks go. It's time to get healthy.
1.Soy – Soy taken in moderation is great for your health. I take the Vitamin pill daily as It lowers your cholesterol levels, reduces the risk of heart disease, and breast cancer. This was particularly important for me as breast cancer runs in my family and I know so many woman are at risk for this disease. Soy nuts are a good source, I love to snack on these during the day....use them on salads they are great to boost your energy. Soy burgers are great too. They are quick and easy to prepare, just heat and eat with cheese and tomato on 100% whole-grain bread or eat on salad.
2.Salad – Be careful here, because salads can fool you. Certain salad ingredients are going to do more for your body than others. I prefer to use the leafy greens such as arugula, romaine and of course one of my favorites is spinach. These greens are loaded with folic acid, which is loaded with antioxidants, great for pregnant women. Add carrots and now you are getting a powerful antioxidant that reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer. Oh and don't forget the Broccoli, because it is a great source of calcium as well as Vitamin C. Another powerful antioxidnat ingredient is tomatoes this Juicy ingredient is known to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Also can be used in tomato sauces for more potency.
3.Fish – My favorite I must confess something... when it comes to fish, I am not like most people I believe I could live on a planet with just fish on it, I really do. I never grow tired of it. Fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are extremely good for the body. Omega-3 decreases the risk of heart disease and breast cancer. Always remember when looking for Fish in your local market, look for fillets that are firm and have that healthy fresh caught sheen to them. Don't buy it if it has a fishy smell, it's been sitting out too long and could make you sick so be careful in your selections. The best way to maintain the omega-3 potency is to poach the fish, ( I have to get use this), I prefer broiling or grilling instead but I am getting there. Season with dill, olive oil, salt and pepper and a little lemon and this is a very easy and very tasty healthy dish and also good for you!
4.Bread – 100% Whole grain bread is the key and an excellent source of fiber, which has been shown to reduce colon cancer. A good goal to set here would be 30 grams of fiber per day. Some cereals such as cornflakes are rich in whole grains as well so check around in your local markets.
5.Blueberries – I love blueberries they have a dessert feel to them, blueberry yogurt in the afternoons after dinner is one of my favorite treats. It's also fun to be able to include them in kids meals as well over cereal, in oatmeal and I like to make milkshakes and include the berries for a fun treat. Blueberries are another powerful antioxidant as they can reduce the occurance of urinary tract infections as well as reduce the risk of some cancers and also memory loss.
It's time to see your body in a new light.....vision yourself as being Happy, Healthy and Whole.
Forgive yourself for the ways that you have not appreciated your body and move on.
